Maintaining a healthy diet often takes a bit of planning and commitment. When you are walking the snack aisle, many stores have limited or no selection for organic snacks and treats. So when Newman's Own Organics asked us to review a wide selection of their snack foods, we were really excited. Newman's Own Organics sent us a box filled with all kinds of organic treats - from chocolates, to cookies, licorice to dried fruit...even some pretzels and mints too. So what did we think?
A Little About Newman's Own Organics
Newman's Own Organics started in 1993 as a way to satisfy the market need for organic snack foods. They offer a wide variety of organic food products and snacks, including coffees, teas, candies and chocolates, plus cookies, olive oils, and popcorn...just to name a few. They have even launched a line of pet food! They are always looking for cost-effective organic ingredients for their products, in an effort to keep costs down. And all of their products meet the USDA requirements for the National Organic Program. Plus, the sale of all Newman's Own Organics products also generates money for the Newman's Own Foundation which gives money to educational and charitable organizations across the globe.
What Did We Try Out From Newman's Own Organics?
Newman's Own Organics sent us a great selection of snacks to try! We received chocolates, including some amazing dark chocolate like the Orange Dark Chocolate. Plus we tried out all kinds of chocolate cups, including some Milk and Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, Peppermint cups, and even Raspberry Cups.
We also got a wonderful selection of all types of cookies. We received a package of original Hermits, and we enjoyed some Ginger-O's, Fig Newmans, plus the Original and Hint-O-Mint Newman-O's. We also received a fantastic selection of the Family Recipe Cookies, including Orange Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, and Ginger Snaps too!
Lastly, we tried out a fantastic variety of the Licorice Twists, from many of the sour varieties, to the fruit and black licorice too.
Why We Loved Newman's Own Organics
We really liked the variety that came with Newman's Own Organics products. If you are trying to eat a more organic diet, and you are frustrated at the snack offerings available, Newman's Own Organics snacks offer a great variety that is all organic too. The snacks range from salty pretzels, to licorice candies, many kinds of cookies, and even dried fruits and chocolates.
If you're snack searching, their wide variety offers many great, organic options. Plus, the ingredients are good for you too! Another reason we really liked these snacks is Newman's Own Organics's affiliation with the Newman's Own Foundation.
What to Think About Before Buying Newman's Own Organics
All of the products might not be available everywhere, so if you are truly interested in one of their products, be sure to ask your local grocer about possibly carrying it. I checked in our local grocery and found only a few of the product line, but when I checked my local natural foods store, I found much more. You can also check out many of their snack food offerings on their website, and on Amazon.
Depending on your local grocery store's prices, the Newman's Own Organics snacks prices are comparable to regular snack prices for non-organic offerings, but some might be a tad more expensive. Again, these prices will depend on your area and your merchant.
Depending on our own taste buds and opinions, a few of us preferred the salty rather than sweet, so pretzels were more of a favorite. Some really liked one type of cookie over the other. Some liked the creme-filled cookies, while others preferred the chocolate chip ones. Not everyone's opinions were the same, but overall 3 out of four of us DollarStretchers thought all the snacks were tasty. Like most foods, our tastes will vary, so you will want to try out the ones that you think you might like, to see if they will work for you.
And that's it! Newman's Own Organics offers a great variety of organic snack foods. They can be a great alternative snack for those seeking a more organic diet.
