Now there is a topic that you thought you would never hear Gramma talking about. It is one of the best ways to save money that I have found yet. I think the biggest objection to on-line shopping is the shipping fees. Let me take you back a few years to "Tickle Me Elmo" days. I think that everyone reading this will remember the frenzy by obsessed shoppers to find this elusive "animal". Yep, I was among them. I drove from one store to another, putting my name in and receiving my "rain check". Then one day I finally received my "rain check" and drove gleefully to the store.... about 20 miles drive for me to the nearest shopping mall. When I got there, my rain check was no good. They didn't save them back for rain check people, just put them out and alas there were none left. I finally did find the elusive Elmo that year. What did I estimate my cost in gas and time lost running around looking for it? About $50 all total, plus the cost of the item. No matter how hard you read the sale papers and how many miles you drive and how many hours you spend in line in the checkouts, you will never save money shopping in person. If you go to the Internet and put in searches and find the gift you want, order it, pay for (and yes you will pay shipping, handling and in some cases insurance) I estimate you will usually save at least the cost of the item in lost time, gas money and frustration. It also affords you one added convenience, comparison shopping. I have also found that a request to some smaller companies for wholesale information can save you a lot of money also. I have 16 grandchildren ranging in ages from 6-17. Some of them want the same things and if I can consolidate buying into wholesale by buying in quantity, this can save a ton of money. For my money, I take buying from the Internet. I have found the best deals, the best prices and do it without tearing out my hair. I think the biggest problem that people have is giving their credit card number or debit number over the net. I have researched this and found that it is much safer than giving it over the phone to salespeople. Most on-line stores have "real time" processing done by a reputable processing agent and the company you are buying from never gets your card number. They are only notified that the purchase is paid for. You can use paypal.com for many sites on the net also. This is totally safe and secure as it is backed by Traveler's Insurance Company. You are safer buying on the net than presenting you card to a store in person. So, let's go shopping in our grungies. I love it, I don't have to get dressed up, don't even have to put my shoes on.
