Inexpensive Dating Ideas
Some of the best dating moments include spending quality time with your honey in the warm and cuddly confines of the indoors, especially when there's a cozy fireplace crackling in the background.
This article highlights a downpour of creative date ideas for you and your date to enjoy when under cover, or as in the case of the Liquid Sunshine Date, when there's no cover at all, and you're creating memories splashing out in the rain or in other inclement weather.
So grab your umbrella or don your coolest clothes because things are sure to heat up when you incorporate some Rainy Day Dates into your dating repertoire.
Musical Madness Date
Give each other thirty minutes to write your own lyrics to a familiar tune of your choice. Next, pick up a guitar or go to the piano and take turns singing your dittys to each other.
For variety, team up and write a song together, taking turns composing each line or phrase at a time. Sing it together in two part harmony. If you dare, sing into a tape recorder and play it back. You'll be guaranteed a bundle of laughs.
Liquid Sunshine Date
Raining again? Are you wasting another day at home wishing you could be outside enjoying the day with your sweetheart? If the rain is getting you down, then you need to "get down" in the rain! Make it a point to splash your feet in every puddle that comes across your path. Afterwards, return home for some hot chocolate and dry towels.
Grocery Store Date
You'll be surprised at the many laughs you'll encounter together at the supermarket as you take turns pushing the cart up and down the aisles in search of the items from your "make a meal together" shopping list.
As you approach the end of your shopping list (and after you've sneaked a few odd items into the cart while your date wasn't looking), make it a contest to see who can come closest to predicting the total cost of the grocery bill. Select a prize for the winner.
Now it's time to cook dinner! Go back home, put on your aprons, and team up to concoct a gourmet dinner that would satisfy even the most discriminating of tastes.
Learn a New Skill Date
Another idea to pass away the time on a rainy day is to spend it with your date learning a new skill or activity. There are many skills a man and a woman can enjoy learning from each other that are both useful and fun.
Useful skills a woman can teach a man include how to sew on a button, cook a meal from scratch, accessorize your clothes, or put down a toilet seat. A man, on the other hand, can teach a woman beneficial skills such as how to change or rotate a tire, program a VCR, or plumb a sink.
Another angle to explore with this date is to learn a skill or activity together that neither of you have experienced before but would have an interest in. Examples include learning to play a guitar, frame a picture, refurnish a piece of furniture, or if things aren't going so well, you can teach each other how to get out of a bad date.
Plan a Trip Date
It doesn't cost anything to dream. And planning an imaginary trip to that island paradise or resort town is one way to curb your dream travel aspirations and to bring you one step closer to it becoming a reality.
Target a roomy space such as the living room floor or kitchen dining table and spread out all the maps, brochures, and travel guides that you each have resourcefully gathered for this occasion.
As a concluding step to your Plan a Dream Trip date, cut out pictures, words, and phrases from your trip planning resources and paste them on a sealed jar that you can use to put your spare change in. Maybe this trip will become a reality sooner than you might think.
Create a Pizza Date
Bad weather can certainly put a damper on your plans for an outdoors date, but one thing it's not likely to damper is your appetite. Good weather or bad, you've gotta eat. So "weather" or not, food here we come!
A compliment to any indoor activity is to create your own pizza together. It's simple and easy, and best of all, it requires a team effort. The ready-to-use pizza dough and sauce provide the basics. The fun comes in when you go to the store to select your toppings (olives, 'shrooms, pepperoni, etc.). Try some new toppings you never considered on pizza before, such as pineapple, asparagus, potatoes, or even candy. See who can come up with the most outrageous, yet delicious creation. Whatever you do, be sure to re-think the onions. This is a date, after all.
Vintage Comedy Radio Show
Spend an evening together in front of the radio just like your grandparents did in the old days. There are many comedy radio shows on the air that are hysterical. Just check your local AM frequency programming. Once you hear these with your date, you'll have each other doubled over laughing when you mimic the style of the characters on the radio program.
Some of these vintage comedy shows can even be pulled down off the internet. Bookstores also provide recordings that can be purchased.
Some entertaining personalities to consider for this date include Bill Cosby, Bob Newhart, Jerry Seinfeld, Firesign Theater, Garrison Kieller, etc. Hearing just a line or two from one of your favorite shows will have you in stitches.

Talent, No Talent Date
Each of us have been blessed with different gifts and abilities that make up part of who we are. Exposing these gifts is harder for some than it is for others, but sharing them is an important part of the attraction process. Creating a forum to express these gifts is what the Talent, No Talent date is all about.
The aim of this date is to humor and amaze each other with your collective range of talents (hidden or otherwise). Letting your personalities shine through your talents is a great way to learn more about each other as well as pass the time on a rainy day.
Take turns impressing one another with your various talents. It could be playing a musical instrument such as a flute, harmonica, or piano. Or maybe your talent is more artistic in nature, like drawing or painting, or making origami.
Of the "no talent" variety (which really is talent by the way) have fun showing off your unique skills and abilities, such as balancing a spoon on your nose, spinning a basketball on your finger, walking and chewing gum at the same time, etc.
Here are some other Talent, No Talent ideas to consider:
- Speak a foreign language. Or make up a foreign language and convince your date it really is authentic.
- Make your ears wiggle.
- Touch your nose with your tongue.
- Do a push up with one arm only.
- Perform a few impressive card tricks.
One of the greatest benefits of dating is creating lasting memories together. Every dating couple has a story to tell, and one of the most creative ways to do this is by telling it through a well-constructed scrapbook. Give your scrapbook a theme such as "Over the Years" or "Our Trip to…," then on the next rainy day, meet together to record your memories.
Enjoy the moments developing your memory book and reflecting back on the momentous times you shared. As a finale, set aside 30 minutes each and write up a personal summary, poem, or travel review to include at the end of your scrapbook that'll make you want to look back on the trip for years to come.
