Check The History

You forgot to mention to contact their local BBB. It is the best source to avoid being ripped off. Go to your local BBB website and type in the company name to obtain a report. Once you have the report, look for membership (the BBB's standards are high and not everyone is allowed in as a member), and then look for complaint history. Don't be fooled by a BBB logo on the contractors company's website. Sometimes those are fake, or it's really for another company that is owned by the contractors company. Go to the BBB site instead. Make your decision based on BBB history, price and referrals from friends and family. Also, if by chance, you have a complaint against a company that is a member of the BBB. Please make sure to let them know of it.
