How many times has a recipe called for only half an onion, and once you use what you need, you put the other half in the refrigerator and then forgot about it? Or have you ever sliced only half an apple or tomato for a snack or sandwich? The other half ends up in the fridge, you forget about it...and it goes bad. In fact, the Washington Post reports that U.S. households throw out between 14 to 25 percent of the food and beverages that they buy. That's a significant amount of waste! And a lot of that is fresh food that's gone bad because it wasn't eaten in time. So as you are slicing up your summer salad, and thinking about what to do with the other half of your onion, consider a Food Hugger! We reviewed these innovative little gadgets designed to fit on different fruits and veggies and keep them fresh. Did they work? Here's our opinion:
A Little About Food Huggers
Food huggers were designed and created as kitchen tools to keep food from going to waste. They stretch and fit on a variety of different fruits and veggies...even avocados! The lids are designed to be tight fitting, and they keep fresh fruits and vegetables fresher longer. Plus they come in a variety of cool colors, too!
What We Liked About Food Huggers
Food Huggers really work to keep fresh fruits and veggies fresh for longer! From onions to apples, we tried them out in our fridge, and they truly fit on different veggies and fruits to keep things fresh. They stretched to fit any of the fruits and veggies we tried, and because the colors are bright, they are easy to find in the fridge too! Plus they are reusable!
Things to Think About Before Buying Food Huggers
I'll admit that there are other ways to store fresh foods, from plastic baggies to plastic containers. But these are truly different in that they don't take up much space, are reusable, and easy to spot in the fridge. They won't get lost in your crisper drawer!
Food Huggers are great little tools perfect for keeping summer fruits and veggies fresh for longer. Be sure to check out their website for additional information!
