Liquid Only Please Our vote is still out on which detergent we feel works better, but we learned one lesson the hard (and expensive!) way that we'd like to pass along. We live in a neighborhood where the newest house was built in 1932 and the sewer lines are still cast iron and clay pipe. They work great as long as they are maintained and treated with respect, something we didn't know we were abusing by using cheap powdered detergent. Apparently, powdered detergent builds up like plaque in arteries in these old lines and the cheaper the soap, the worse the buildup. After a costly cleanout and repair of rock-hard soap gunk that blocked our line and nearly destroyed our pipes and house, we switched to liquid-only laundry and dish detergent. We haven't have a problem since. We've also noticed that there aren't anymore little tiny white speckles on our black laundry. We Love Windfresh! I work at an assisted living where Windfresh was used. It did such a fantastic job that I bought a club membership, so that I could also use it at home. It has worked for my 5-year-old grandson, 13-year-old daughter, two adult children, a couple of in-laws, and just recently a new baby. My washing machine happens to be handy for everyone, and I'm just glad I can supply the soap and we're all happy with the outcome. By the way, my son's job isn't tidy. All but the worst stains come out without any pretreatment. Do you have a time or money saving idea that wasn't included in this article? Please send it to tips @stretcher.com.
