Comparison Shopping
Price Comparison Websites: Looking for Computer Stuff I do a lot of shopping online. It is, however, mostly for computer products, books and CDs. The best site I have found is at www.dealtime.com. The other one I use most frequently is www.buy.com. The reason deal time is better, is that they price more products, more stores, and do not bury the stores that they are not affiliated with so deeply that you can't find them. Deal time will also search buy.com, so you are not missing out on anything. Price Comparison Websites: Do Price Comparison Yourself I have only tried a couple of these, notably www.netmarket.com and www.bottomdollar.com, but have been disappointed. The categories are usually too broad to find a specific item (Example: do HANDKERCHIEFS go under Apparel, Gifts or what?) When I look for an item that I often shop for, the shopbot doesn't always include the sites that have the best prices. (Example: bottomdollar never included www.books.com, the cheapest book place on the Net, which has since been merged into Barnes & Noble.) I suspect the sites are paying to be listed on the shopbot. What I do to find a price is to type the name of the item into the search feature at www.mamma.com. This search engine returns so many matches that I almost always find enough stores to compare and get the best price, even though it takes a little longer. And I know I will find the brands I want. If this doesn't work and I want a brand name item, I find the manufacturer's site and sometimes they sell cheaper direct, or they give store locations where I can compare prices. Price Comparison Websites: Weekly In Store Sales Try http://www.salescircular.com/. This is a good place to compare weekly sales and in store specials. Price Comparison Websites: One One for Electronics The only one I use is www.pricewatch.com, as I like it so well. You can search for the lowest prices on computer items as well as home electronics. Also, buy.com is offering free shipping through the end of the year. Good place for books, computer hardware & software, music, movies, and games. Different price comparison engines yield different results. Here are the ones I have used in the past. PC Magazine talks very highly about the mySimon price comparison engine.
