I have been mystery shopping for about a year since I am home with my kids. I work for 4 different companies. I think it is a great way to supplement income, I really like having my own money and it provides for little extras or helps pay for the newspaper and gifts and a lunch out now and then.

Although the money varies widely for assignments you are always free to say no. Unless you always say no the companies don't hold it against you. One day this month I made $185 in one morning and had my lunch paid for and was home by 12:30. This is not typical, but with time and experience it happens once in a while.

I share babysitting with a mother at my son's school so we can do outside activities in the day time. Most but not all assignments can be done with a child with you. To find out how to mystery shop go to any search engine and type in mystery shopping you will get tons of responses. Do not send any money to anyone ever.

Legitimate companies do not do this. Be aware that all shoppers are independent contractors and are liable for all their taxes, expenses, insurance and any other incidentals related to the job. I have found that many times when I say no to a shop, particularly because the location is too far away they just raise the price until it is worth it for me to go. I really enjoy mystery shopping and would reccommend it to anyone staying at home with their kids or that needs a little extra money for that college fund or vacation or PGE bill.
