Planning for Success
If you've been looking for a great meal planning app, look no further. The free smartphone app (available on the App Store), Mom365 Meals makes keeping track of your weekly meals, your grocery list, and your recipes a breeze. This app is one of my favorite tools for planning and shopping, because it integrates meal-planning, recipes, your shopping list, and even store sales all in one place on your phone. So, how does it work?
The app has five separate sections along the bottom of the screen, each designed to assist in different ways for planning and shopping. The first section, titled "Cookbook," is designed so that you can search for recipes (or add recipes) to be used in your weekly meal plan. The wonderful thing about this section is that you can actually find recipes through many sites from the web, and the app will add the ingredients to your grocery list! What a time saver! No more finding recipes on the computer or in cookbooks and jotting down what you need. No more flip-flopping phone screens from list to recipe search. It's all combined here. You can also add in your own recipes or search the recipes stored in the app. Plus, you can also search recipes based on items that you might have on hand or things on sale.
The next section of the app, titled "Meals," is the actual meal planning section, which is essentially a calendar. Once you add meals or recipes to this section, you can then tap the calendar next to the meal to set up the date you want to prepare that meal. The calendar keeps track of your meals as you choose what to prepare. It's a great way to easily refer back to recipes that you use often; just put the recipes back on the calendar for an upcoming week. It's super easy!
After the meal planning section, the next section is the "Grocery List." After you have chosen and calendared your meals, the grocery list tallies up the ingredients in the meals. Once you are finished planning, you can scroll through and see what you need, and check off what you have. If you already have ingredients on hand, you can check those off and clear them from your list. And when you are at the store, as you put items in your basket, you can also check off your list. Plus, you can add extras items that you need to pick up from the store on your list.
The next section, titled "Store Sales," allows you to put in your zip code and choose the stores where you most frequently shop to compare the sale items at those stores. The sales, depending on the chosen store, will also sometimes actually show up right next to the item on your grocery list. Or if you just want to browse the current sale items, you can click right on the store, and all the current sale items are listed. And the last section ("Profile") even allows users to select in-store reminders at the stores you've chosen for deals.
The Mom365 Meals meal-planning app is a great tool for busy moms and dads, especially if you can't find the time to sit down and plan your meals. This app coordinates the sales, finds the recipes, and even tallies your grocery list! You can start tracking your meals on your phone in your spare time!
